What whitening affects
Dentist-supervised whitening targets discolouration in natural tooth structure. It does not change the underlying shade of composite fillings, porcelain or zirconia crowns, or veneers in the same way.
Shade differences at the front teeth
If a front tooth has a filling or crown, natural teeth may lighten while the restoration retains its original shade. A previously close match can become more noticeable.
Planning the order
When whitening and new restorations are both being considered, oral health is assessed first. For suitable patients, whitening may be planned before selecting a new restoration shade. Suitability and timing are determined at consultation.
